I considered doubling down on Workshops and sacrificing some labour short-term, but that's an even larger drain on wood and steel, and trying to get those makes me lose out even more on food and coal.Ĭoal's usually the bigger problem I often have two mines, and it's still not enough. I play on Flats, so that might be why this is an issue, but I'm always short on some combination of coal, food, and heat (my recent resource setup has been 2 coal mines, 2 hunter's huts, 1 hothouse, plus 2 sawmills and a steelworks for building). I've been struggling with balancing everything. I'm just hoping to understand why the strategy that made New Home so easy (I only play on Medium so far, mind) leads to failure within weeks on Endless. Not OP, so feel free to ignore this if you feel like you've given your fair share of help today. Surviving the first storm of endurance mode is definitely one of the most interesting and fast-paced challenges, and I'll be replaying it several times (funny how endless mode may very well be my go-to for "quick and brutal one-sitting challenge") I needed a steam sawmill and steam steelworks to get everyone's bunkhouses built, and even then I had to work into the storm and got a few amputations. You may also want to go for the hothouse or hunter's tactics to stockpile sufficient food.īefore the storm hits, you'll want to have bunkhouses, the first generator power upgrade, steam hubs, and heaters. After that you want to get your steelworks and your thumper. After that you have hunter gear because you need to start stockpiling food for the storm. Sawmill is your second priority since it produces wood way faster than gathering and you need wood production as soon as possible. Tech-wise you want beacon first the sooner you can find some survivors to shore up your labor situation the better. It's inefficient to build during the day, but you really need to get going on this. You start with enough resources for one, and you've got a lot of techs that you need to snap up. So one of the things I'm increasingly convinced of is that you should build a workshop immediately. Other than that, you want the usual deal of emergency/extended shifts for more productivity and soup to stretch your food. The first storm hits earlier and harder than any other scenario, and you simply don't have time to prepare for it as well as you would like. As the leader of Site 113, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. The combination of medical apprentices, organ transplants, and overcrowding is definitely a good idea on endurance.
